December 2, 2016 E-Root's and G-root's IPv6 addresses have been published to the root zone, E-Root: 2001:500:a8::e on August 25, 2016 and G-Root: 2001:500:12::d0d on October 20, 2016. E-Root and G-Root are now able to answer both IPv4 and IPv6 queries, fulfilling RFC 7720's requirement, "MUST support IPv4 [RFC791] and IPv6 [RFC2460] transport of DNS queries and responses.
